Lucky You
Who
Lucky You is a conceptual brand imagined and designed entirely by me. I designed the website for Lucky You as my capstone project for the ilovecreatives Squarespace Design Course — the project's primary goal was to design a website that completely reflects your unique design style. I’m constantly dreaming of starting a local business one day, and creating this imaginary bar and restaurant was so much fun. I genuinely hope to see Lucky You in the real world one day!
What
I love brands that are a little bit cheeky, and the line “just a regular bar, nothing special going on in here” kept popping into my head. Lucky You was built on a foundation of silliness, irony, and intrigue.
I love film photography, and I actually started the brand design process by finding stock images I loved — they’re grainy and gritty, just how I like them, and give off the vibe that Lucky You is a super casual neighborhood spot to meet your friends. After finding the photos, I started thinking about the interior design of the space, the types of food and drinks you’d find there, and what type of people would be hanging out there. From there, it was easy to develop a brand identity. The colors are bright and playful, the fonts are cheeky and retro, and the website is covered with vintage fruit stickers and images of food and drink that look like they were cut out from a vintage magazine ad.
I wanted Lucky You’s website to feel like a scrapbook. Every image on the website has hover effects to make it feel like you’re physically sifting through the photos. This website is a maximalist’s dream and, therefore, required lots and lots of custom CSS. It definitely expanded my skill set as a web designer!
