Amaya Nichole
Who
Amaya Nichole is a writer, photographer, videographer, and journalism student — a true multi-hyphenate creative. We first met at an event called Journaling Classes (if you’re in NYC, you neeeeed to check it out), and immediately clicked on both a personal and creative level. So when she reached out about a website, I couldn’t say yes fast enough.
Amaya’s brand is colorful, bold, and nostalgic in the best way — Junie B. Jones meets vintage camcorder footage. Her Halloween costume was “A Bad Case of Stripes”, which tells you just about everything you need to know about Amaya.
In her strategy workbook, she told me she wanted her brand to feel “fun and colorful and quirky and comforting,” and emphasized that she wanted her website to align with her voice, which she sees as her biggest asset as a writer. Our shared goal for this project was to build a website that could hold all the pieces of her creative identity — while feeling as playful (yet professional) as her work itself.
What
We kicked off this project with creative direction and brand design. I presented three visual concepts, and Amaya picked my favorite (always a fun bonus!). From there, we built out a type suite and color palette that feels electric and grounded at the same time. I also helped Amaya prep for her brand photoshoot with shot list direction, outfit styling ideas, and visual inspiration — and the results couldn’t have aligned better with the brand.
This site is packed with personal, playful touches. We sourced and scattered on-brand object PNGs (a stack of books, a pack of crayons, etc.) throughout the site to bring in some fun and nostalgia. On her Photography & Videography page, we used actual VHS footage from Amaya’s archive as the hero section — one of my favorite moments on the site.
Like many of my multi-hyphenate clients, Amaya is constantly experimenting with new ideas and creative directions, so we created a Side Quests page to showcase her miscellaneous projects — because even the things that don’t quite fit in a box still deserve the spotlight.
The final site is bold, adventurous, and completely unmistakable as anyone else’s — just like Amaya herself.
